Yeah - that's what we keep saying. They either deep down don't believe it or they're afraid of what we'll say. we talk with our siblings all the time about where we stand and their love is unconditional, they even agree on most points. hopefully they will find their way out physically as well as mentally.

she told me that i needed to get back to the meetings because armageddon was so near.
i told her that if i serve jehovah, it will not be because i am afraid of dying at armageddon, it will be because i love him and have a personal relationship with him.

by cia112 inwell my mom has been a jw ever since i was 5 but was studying since before i was born, i am now 21 and hate every minute of it.
i could never stand it, she knows i dont like it but still makes me go preaching and go to the meetings and what not, your probably asking yourself why dont i just leave?
well shes the one who pays for my college and everything tht i need.

No matter what, get your education now. Get a definite skill while you're in school. Once you get your education under wraps everything
will fall into place. Don't worry about how to take care of yourself. Don't ever stress about that.
Keep your expenses well below your income and don't accumulate credit card debt.
Keep your lifestyle simple and enjoy as much of life as you possibly can.

At a 2 day assembly ...the point that the brother spoke about that drove me mad....."don't hug your husband, wife or child during prayer".
by crazy2try ini attended one day of a two day assembly and did ok until the very last talk.
the brother was from bethal and well jw's pay closer attention to their talks, cause that is when some new info is given,,,right.
well anyways i lost focus and began to daydream, cause it became one of those talks that just talks about wasting time.

Did your parents' zealousness ever embarass you?
by keyser soze inmy dad was/is very zealous about announcing his faith.
but he doesn't quite have the knack for it, or the tact.. case in point: when i was a kid, about 12 i think, him, my brother and i were walking into a department store when we encountered a lady out in front who was passing out leaflets for a political candidate.
it wasn't even a major election.

My parents were never zealous witnesses! But they raised us to do as they say and not as they do. So we all entered full time service.
So no they never embarassed me. But I am extremely embarrassed at my own zealousness.

Hey its_me!
IMO your thoughts in par. 2 pretty much say it all ! My aunt is always threatening her DA'd son and inactive daughter with this crap. She even leaves messages that their kids are gonna be destroyed (yeah she's a nut). My cousins have had to bar their kids from associating with her at all. But my cousin told my aunt that being in the religion was a living hell and he'd rather be shot on the spot than live like that again.
Interestingly, my spouse and I have yet to have anyone tell us this. My siblings (who are very active) and my dad couldn't care less about our leaving. And the rest of the family haven't said anything to us.....At all. Can u believe that?

panty Hose at Meeting?
by hamsterbait ina friend of mine went to work in ny for a few months.. it was the middle of summer, and baking hot.. after the meeting an elder approached her and asked why wasnt she wearing panty hose at the kingdumb hell.. she said its too hot.. he said it disrespects jehoobie.. she said "so does staring at my legs during the meeting.".
i have also heard complaints that a bra strap might be visible under a blouse, so cardigans should still be worn.. how do these creeps cope when sitting on a beach?.
who was the gibbering buddy who sunbathed on the roof of beth hell showing off his packet in skimpy trunks?.

One more thing that used to really grate my nerves. Counsel from the platform about showing cleavage......I would be boiling during those parts. I always wanted some dimwit to step to me about my cleavage. I fantasized about saying, "How do you know?" No one ever did though. I was viewed as spiritual so they probably let me slide on that one. Oh no! not the stocking issue again! Yeah I've been in several congregations over the years. Depends on how liberal "the friends" are. Our last congregation before exiting was really strict on their clothing they'd dress to the 9s with hats and stockings....lol I was the rebellious one. I got the eyebrow raise a few times from the sisters for being out in service w/ no protection on the legs. The thing is we had been sent to that congregation to help out......lol
Yeah I was a real good example while serving there.....all the way out the door!

Jeff - your thoughts are really encouraging. Since we exited I've been struggling with a huge sense of waste and regret. My husband tells me all the time "It's not over!" It's difficult to have perspective after being involved so long with the witnesses. Lots of deprogramming which seems overwhelming at times. My plan now is to continue to learn from all of you who are moving forward.
Nary- I wish the same. When you've been taught to live your life waiting on Jehovah, it is truly a struggle to go out and make it happen.
Heaven -I'm gonna remember those four human needs. That's a good reference to start to build.
Iknowall558 - I wish the same. All my life I thought I had made a "choice" to live my own life serving Jehovah. Wrong!
